For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. [Romans 6:23]
The devil is the evil one; he is the enemy of God and God's people.
TEMPTATION - When the devil or someone provides an opportunity to do something wrong and encourages you to do so.
Ask your child if she/he would like to lead the family's prayer time. If not, pray a simple prayer and ask them to recite The Lord's Prayer when you are finished. Be sure to tell them that prayer is talking to God and that they can talk to God anytime about anything.
If your child is old enough to read, ask them to read the following verses in a modern translation. We encourage the New Living Translation or English Standard Version but by all means - NO KING JAMES VERSION - LOL!
Repetition is very important in learning. Take 60-90 seconds to retell the story. Tell it in your own words in a way that your child can grasp it.
Why don't you and your child(ren) reenact the story? Allow them to choose a character and to explain why they chose that character. When done, ask them about the significance of each character.
Ask the following questions -
What happened in the story?
How did Adam and Eve break God's heart?
What is sin?
ANSWER - Words, thoughts and actions that break God's heart and hurt other people. [Repeat the answer several times; It may be wise to revisit I John 5:17.]
What are some things that are wrong?
[Answers will vary. Affirm and redirect as needed.]
What do we call things that are wrong?
[ANSWER - Sin]
Why are those things wrong?
ANSWER - Those things are wrong because they may break God's heart or hurt other people.
What should we do when we sin?
Read I John 1:9. When we break God's heart we should confess to Him and ask Him to forgive us. When we hurt other people we should apologize and ask them to forgive us.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. [Romans 5:8, NIV]
The joy of living with God forever - EVEN AFTER WE DIE!
Ask your children to repeat this prayer -
God we love you and want to please you. Forgive us for everything that we have done to hurt You and other people. Give us strength to resit the devil. AMEN.
Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin;
Each vict’ry will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.
