For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. [Romans 6:23]
The devil tempted Adam and Eve. They disobeyed God by eating from the forbidden tree.
ETERNAL LIFE - The joy of living with God forever - EVEN AFTER WE DIE!
Ask your child if she/he would like to lead the family's prayer time. If not, pray a simple prayer and ask them to recite The Lord's Prayer when you are finished. Be sure to tell them that prayer is talking to God and that they can talk to God anytime about anything.
If your child is old enough to read, ask them to read Luke 15:11-32 in a modern translation. We encourage the New Living Translation or English Standard Version but by all means - NO KING JAMES VERSION - LOL!
NOTE - This is a longer passage than usual so you may want to read parts of it to them.
Repetition is very important in learning. Take 60-90 seconds to retell the story. Tell it in your own words in a way that your child can grasp it.
Why don't you and your child(ren) reenact the story? Allow them to choose a character and to explain why they chose that character. When done, ask them about the significance of each character.
Ask the following questions -
What happened in the story?
Do you think "the prodigal son" broke his father's heart? If so, how?
What should we do when we recognize that we have done wrong?
What did the prodigal son do when he recognized that he was wrong?
What did the father do when the prodigal son returned?
How were the father's actions like the love of God?
What happened with the elder brother? Did he act like a Christian?
Download the coloring sheet below. We'd love to see your work!
Draw near unto God and He will draw near unto you. [James 4:8]
To do what God says and to submit to His will for our lives.
Ask your children to repeat this prayer -
God Thank You for creating us in Your image and likeness. Thank You for loving us and giving us the opportunity to walk with You all the days of our lives and to enjoy Your presence every step of the way. AMEN.
Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin;
Each vict’ry will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.
Refrain:
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.
