Ask your child if she/he would like to lead the family's prayer time. If not, pray a simple prayer and ask them to recite The Lord's Prayer when you are finished. Be sure to tell them that prayer is talking to God and that they can talk to God anytime about anything.
" After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, 'Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.'” (Matthew 2:1-2)
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
cheerful and lively; marked by celebrating and rejoicing.

Ask the following questions:
Where were the Israelites living?
Who did God send to tell the Israelites about their disobedience?
What is a prophet?
What did Isaiah remind the Israelites of?
Read Matthew 2:1-2
What did the magi notice in the sky?
Why do people assume there were three magi?
What were the gifts they presented to Jesus?
What are gifts that you can bring to Jesus?
Suppose you get up to go wash the dishes, but when you get to the kitchen, you are hungry so you fix yourself a snack. After fixing yourself a snack and throwing the trash away, you notice the trash is filling up so you empty it. But as you're emptying it, you spill something on the floor and you have to clean the floor. Cleaning one part of the floor turns into cleaning all of it, and you become tired after doing so, so you finally leave the kitchen and sit down. But when you sit down you remember that you never did the thing that you got up to do in the first place. That is what Christmas has become for many. We have gotten so caught up in doing everything else that we forget the reason we celebrate in the first place: the birth of Jesus.
Why do you think the wise men brought gifts?
What are some ways that people get distracted during the season?
How can you prioritize what really matter during the holiday season?
Ask your children to repeat this prayer -
God, thank You for the gift of Your son. Sometimes we forget about the real meaning of Christmas. Help us to remember to give ourselves to you and be willing to give to others.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
