"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12)
Fasting - to abstain from from all or some kinds of food or drink.
Ask your child if she/he would like to lead the family's prayer time. If not, pray a simple prayer and ask them to recite The Lord's Prayer when you are finished. Be sure to tell them that prayer is talking to God and that they can talk to God anytime about anything.
"On a good day, enjoy yourself; on a bad day, examine your conscience. God arranges for both kinds of days so that we won’t take anything for granted.” (Ecclesiastes 7:14)
“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." (Psalm 16:11)
God's delight in the human heart.
Take a few minutes to watch and review the videos about joy.
Ask the following questions:
Where does Jesus want us to get our joy?
How long does the joy from Jesus last?
Who does Jesus want us to show our joy to?
What can you be when your joy comes from Jesus?
Read Galatians 5:22
Where does Joy come from?
How can we have joy?
What keeps us from putting joy on?
Why do you think it's possible to have joy when you are frustrated?
Suppose you were extremely thirsty and someone offered you two options: you could either have a small glass of water or you could have an entire pitcher. Most people would choose the pitcher because it has a supply of water that will last longer than the small glass. This is what joy does in our lives. Rather than give us happiness that comes from a source that is sure to run out, it gives us happiness and fulfillment from The Holy Spirit, which is a never-ending supply of joy.
What are some things that turn to to give us joy?
Why do you think we turn to temporary things to satisfy us or give us joy?
How do you know when you have joy? What is it based on?
Ask your children to repeat this prayer -
God, thank You for Your Holy Spirit, and the fruit it produces, including joy. Help us to experience the joy of The Lord as my strength and take away anything that does not give us joy.
In Jesus' name,
