ABOUT LAST WEEK...

What was last week's verse to remember?

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. (II Corinthians 7:10, NIV)

What was last week's BIG word?

"CONVICTION" -  To see ones action through the eyes of God.

Opening Prayer

Ask your child if she/he would like to lead the family's prayer time. If not, pray a simple prayer and ask them to recite The Lord's Prayer when you are finished. Be sure to tell them that prayer is talking to God and that they can talk to God anytime about anything.

SCRIPTURE READING

14 And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I  suffer. 16 For I tell you I will not eat it[a] until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. 18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the  vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. [Luke 22:14-20, ESV]

This Week's Verse to Remember

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.  (1 Corinthians 11:26)

This Week's BIG Word - "COMMUNION"

A memorial to Jesus' death and shed blood

REVIEW

Take a few minutes to watch and review the video about the importance of the Lord's Supper.

for the elementary Schoolers

Ask the following questions:

What is a disciple?

Why does Jesus want us to remember him?

What does Jesus say about the cup?

What does Jesus say about the bread?

Why do we have communion?

FOR Middle Schoolers

Read I Corinthians 11: 23-30.

What do people do when they take communion?

What does each item represent?

Why does Jesus want us to take communion?

What is the importance of the Lord's supper?

What is the Passover?

FOR THE HIGH SCHOOLERS

Read I Corinthains 11:23-30

What can you buy with $20? You can probably buy a lot of things. But what gives the green piece of paper its value? At one point, the federal reserve used gold to determine the significance of our money. This is also called "backing." In other words, the piece of paper is worth something because of the value behind it. Communion is the same way. The value is not in the piece of bread or cup of juice. The value is in what they represent. Communion represents the love of God and the sacrifice of Jesus.

What does Communion or The Lord's Supper mean to you?

What does it mean  that Jesus suffered and died just for you?

What are some sacrifices that you can make to honor the sacrifice Jesus made for you?

HYMN OF THE MONTH - "OH HOW I LOVE JESUS"

CLOSING PRAYER

Ask your children to repeat this prayer -

God thank You for Your love and care for us. Thank You for Communion, which gives us a special way to remember Jesus.  Thank You for the promise that You will forgive our sins and for Your Spirit that leads and guides us. AMEN.
