ABOUT LAST WEEK...

What was last week's verse to remember?

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. [Psalm 51:10]

What was last week's BIG word?

"CONSECRATION" To set oneself apart from the world and devote oneself completely to God.

Opening Prayer

Ask your child if she/he would like to lead the family's prayer time. If not, pray a simple prayer and ask them to recite The Lord's Prayer when you are finished. Be sure to tell them that prayer is talking to God and that they can talk to God anytime about anything.

SCRIPTURE READING

“How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9, NIV)

"Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom." (James 4:9, NIV)

Bible App for Kids

This Week's Verse to Remember

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. (II Corinthians 7:10, NIV))

This Week's BIG Word - "CONVICTION"

To see ones action through the eyes of God.

REVIEW

Take a few minutes to watch and review the video about Joseph and Potiphar's wife.

for the elementary Schoolers

Ask the following questions:

What was today's sermon about?

Who was Joseph?

What responsibilities did Potiphar give Joseph?

Why didn't Joseph sin with Potiphar's wife?

Why shouldn't we sin when others ask us to?

FOR Middle Schoolers

Read Genesis 39: 1-10.

What kept Joseph from giving in to the temptation?

What did Joseph's response reveal about his character?

When sin lures us, what are things we can do to reject it?

FOR THE HIGH SCHOOLERS

image175

Read Genesis 39:1-10

Imagine cutting a slice of cake for yourself. Now imagine that after cutting the slice, you realize that while the cake looks good on the outside it is burnt on the inside. This is how sin affects us. Sin usually has a greater effect on the parts of us that are unseen than the parts that are seen. The unseen part is what God sees when others do not.

Do you commonly see your sin as something wicked before God? Is that your first thought?

When Potiphar's wife was tempted to sin, she gave in. But when Joseph was tempted, he resisted and fled. What do you think made such a difference in their responses?

Joseph didn’t just say no, he fled! He took drastic measures to ensure his purity and integrity. How willing are you to take drastic measures against sin?

HYMN OF THE MONTH - "OH HOW I LOVE JESUS"

CLOSING PRAYER

Ask your children to repeat this prayer -
God thank You for creating us in Your image and likeness. Sometimes we don't live up to Your image. Please forgive us and help us to walk with You all the days of our lives and to enjoy Your presence every step of the way. AMEN.
