Throughout the Old Testament, the Solemn Assembly summonsed the people of God to the heart of God for corporate repentance, prayer, fasting, and self-examination. It was also a time to seek God’s favor and to prepare for the promises and blessings of the Lord.
On Wednesday, July 2, we will commit 12 hours to fasting, prayer, and restraint. The Solemn Assembly will begin at 6 AM with a prayer call (605-475-4000; Access Code 700843#). An old fashioned prayer meeting will take place at 12 PM in our sanctuary. We will conclude with a Corporate Victory Celebration at 6 PM. Your most significant offerings during occasion are time, restraint, and your undivided attention. Please observe the following –
1. No food or drink other than water
Fruit and vegetables are permitted for people who need to eat with medication.
2. No entertainment
Television, games, recreation, and social media are prohibited. You may enjoy Gospel music.
3. Restrict communication to immediate family members
God is to have our undivided attention.
4. Refrain from any labor (if possible)
One Hebrew word translated “solemn assembly” means “a day of restraint”—primarily from work.
